PROSTITUTES - EVICTION NR1

Zuanne-Marie van der Merwe
2001,

To justify the using and abusing of drugs without having to answer to anyone else, the young prostitutes bonded with friends and build up relationships that would not survive the outside world. Monique socialized only with the alike and regarded everyone else with suspicion and contempt.  In April 2002 the friendship with one such friend turned sour.  Monique, disliked dishonesty and lies, she found her close friend Charlene was stealing to support her drug habit because she wasn’t as pretty and wasn't making as much money as Monique.

Over a period of time many things went missing, clothing, shoes and Monique had in that week lost R250 she hid away that no one but Charlene knew about. When caught out Monique openly confronted her, the girl denied the obvious truth and Monique gave her an agitated fierce push, Charlene lost her balance, fell against the file cabinet sending papers flying. It was the beginning of a war.

One month later, A raid was arranged by Captain Noeth, following the complaint from Charlene. The girl had a SAP boyfriend, was well aware of the drug using as he was using it aswell.

I was arrested for running a brothel with underaged girls. My case dragged on forever with postponements while the State struggled to gather evidence to proof their case.  The prosecutor was reluctant to have the case thrown out of court based on ‘information’ they had. Propaganda was spreading fast, The media, Child Welfare, and any other person or organisation wanting to know or listen was freely and easily informed of this file of mine.   My clean record and reputation was shot, but not once was there real proof of any crime committed.

The owner of the Queen Wilhelmina house, a lawyer, found out about this unfortunate incident and we were requested in a very professional way to kindly move out by the 25th of May 2001 - the next day.  We obliged.  The house in Bourke street, Sunnyside, was found in an hour and occupied in a day.

At that time there was the 17 year old Monique with her 6 month old baby, Marlise was 16 and 6 months pregnant. Jackie was pregnant and already had a 6 year old son. Lee, a young divorced woman with her 5 year old little girl and 2 other woman also lived with us, they were recovering drug addicts. All of them had been in and out of prostitution. Ansa was pregnant and we utilised her gentle nature to teach the 4 pre-scholars.  The other young colored girl, Riekie arrived pregnant aged 16,  her baby was then 11 months old, she was employed as the fulltime Baby Nanny.
